This is helpful to search engines, as long as the link does not have the "no follow" attribute and it gives you some free advertising. It's extremely important not to post on unrelated blogs or to post comments that have nothing to do with the post. The comments must address something in the original post and offer some real contribution to the conversation, otherwise it's just spamming your link.
